avacado awareness - the dangers exposed

i don't know what is going on lately but people need to realize the dangers of avacados. ok, so its not the avacados themselves, but the people who have no idea how to remove the seeds from the avacados. seriously. we've had 4 patients within the last month with tendon and nerve lacerations to their hands because they've stabbed themselves while trying to get the seeds out of avacados!! INSERT SPOON INTO AVACADO - REMOVE SEED. is it that difficult? i digress. be thankful for this PSA and think before you stab that knife into the avacado seed...

ok, i have the answer to the question of why people can't remove the pit...
once i saw this cooking segment on oprah or something... and the lady was cooking with avacados, and shared this "special trick" for getting out the pit. she was very suave about it, and even had me believing it was a good method, and it is, if the fruit is ripe... otherwise it's a death sentence, or i guess, a severed tendon waiting to happen.
here's how it goes:
get a SHARP knife. wedge it firmly into the pit by a sort of violent downward slashing motion... once firmly planted... simply twist and remove.
you can see how this could end badly (and apparently have seen it end badly) if the thing is anything less than ripe.
ok.
i'm done with my dissertation... which i fear has exceeded the length of the blog!
